This weekend we are celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday. Wow, 150 – that’s old! ☺️
Celebrating a holiday almost always includes eating tons of food and consuming more alcohol than we normally would. Here are a few tips to help navigate the weekend celebrations and come out feeling happy, healthy and energized.
- Stay hydrated – drinking water is a no brainer, but you can also stay hydrated by eating your water. Yes, eating fruits and vegetables that have high water levels will help hydrate and fill your body with nutrients. Try snacking on some celery, cucumbers, zucchini, watermelon, cantaloupe, etc. You get the idea.
- Go to the gym or go for a power walk/run before you go to the BBQ. This will help speed up your metabolism so you burn more calories throughout the day and a few extra bites of that yummy cheese dip or that extra mojito won’t hit the waist line quite as hard.
- BYOF – bring your own food. If you are going to a party, bring a big, healthy salad to the festivities and fill ½ of your plate with it before adding the other goodies.
- Have an ‘after the party is over’ plan. Plan your fitness regime as well as your diet for a few days following the weekend celebrations. This might include adding an extra fitness class to next week's schedule. It might also include cleansing for a few days following the holiday. Our Detox Me!
